Aberdeen Climbers Make British YCS Final

Six regular users of Transition Extreme have qualified for the ClimbScotland competition team moving on to the British Final in Sheffield April 27th and 28th. In a change to the format of recent years the Scottish Final took place over two days in Glasgow and featured two disciplines of climbing. Day one: bouldering at The Climbing Academy followed by day two: roped climbing at The Glasgow Climbing Centre.

TXYS Coach Scott Donaldson was in attendance at the weekend and said “It’s great to see so many climbers from the north east, both in our squad and from the local clubs, moving on to the GB Final. I think the new format suits the kids well as it gives them the chance to rest, reflect and recover from the boulders before getting into the routes on day 2. It also ensures that the social atmosphere is kept up which we have become so fond of in the north heats.” Coach Matt Berry added, “I’m delighted to see the hard work of these young people pay off, it was a tremendous effort for us to send so many to the Scottish Final and to see 6 North East athletes moving on to the British Final is remarkable. It’s a testament to the coaches, parents and athletes themselves. The Granite City Rockstars and Moray Coast Youth Climbing Club have put in some great work to support the kids.

With 4 weeks to go the TXYS Coaching team will be running extra sessions on Saturday afternoons for the qualifying athletes so if you are in the centre, make sure you wish them luck!
