SKATERS MAY GO UNDERCOVER AT THE BEACH

A £2.7 MILLION extreme sports centre for Aberdeen is on the cards.
Plans for an indoor skate and BMX park at Aberdeen Beach have been lodged with the council.

The centre could be open as early as summer 2006 at the Queens Links between the Patio Hotel and the bowling green. The plans, put forward by Neil Stevenson, are for a two-level building, with a skate and BMX park and climbing hall on both levels. The project would see a visitor centre, theatre area, three shops, and changing rooms on the ground floor.
The first floor would boast a cafe, recreation area, viewing balcony, music rooms and study room. There would also be a car park with space for 41 vehicles.
Aberdeen City Council aims to provide £1.26 million, just under half of the total estimated cost. The rest of the cash will come from other public and private agencies.
The complex would be run by a not-for-profit company and it is hoped it would be self-financing.

The plans are due to be advertised next week.
They will be available for people to view at St Nicholas House.
Anyone who wishes to lodge comments on the centre can write within 14 days of the advertisement to Aberdeen City Council's head of physical development.
